create-ebook vs ChatGPT: which one writes a sellable ebook?

By the create-ebook team · Updated 2026-09-13

Plenty of people have written an ebook with ChatGPT, and plenty have given up halfway. The difference between the two is not the model, it is everything around it: a plan the writing sticks to, memory of the previous chapters, a quality check, and files you can upload to a store. This comparison is about that.

The verdict

Use ChatGPT if you enjoy managing the process: writing prompts per chapter, pasting summaries back in, fixing repeats, then formatting in another tool. Use create-ebook if you want the book, not the process: one sentence, a plan you approve, chapters written in order with a review, a cover, and store-ready files. If you already pay for ChatGPT Plus and write one book a year, ChatGPT is cheaper. From the second book, 29 € per book with no monthly fee wins.

Where ChatGPT is better

  • Conversation. You can argue with it, ask for five angles, test a title.
  • Anything that is not a book: emails, ads, a blurb, a chapter you then rewrite by hand.
  • Price if you already subscribe and publish rarely.

Where create-ebook is better

  • Coherence across 10 to 20 chapters. The number one failure of AI books is repetition, and it is a memory problem, not a writing problem.
  • The last mile: cover, PDF layout with contents and page numbers, EPUB that passes KDP, DOCX for your editor.
  • Quality gates. Each chapter is checked for length, structure, filler and repetition, then reviewed against a rubric before you read it. Below the bar, it is rewritten.
  • Cost per book when you publish more than once.

Cost per book

Formatting and cover are included on the left and extra on the right.
create-ebookChatGPT Plus
1 book a year29 €$240 (12 months) or the free tier’s limits
3 books a year59 € (pack of 3)$240 + formatting tool or freelancer
10 books a year149 € (pack of 10)$240 + formatting for each

A fair caveat

Both produce a first draft. Neither replaces your reading, your corrections and the parts only you know. Books that sell have a real person’s experience in them; the tool decides how fast you get to the draft where you can add it.

Frequently asked questions

Does create-ebook use ChatGPT?

It uses large language models through an API, currently from OpenAI, orchestrated by our own pipeline: plan, chapter-by-chapter memory, checks, editorial review, rendering. The model is a component, not the product.

Can I export a ChatGPT draft into create-ebook?

Not yet. You can paste your own text into any chapter after generation and edit freely.

Which writes better English?

On a single chapter, comparable. Over a whole book, create-ebook, because every chapter knows what the previous ones said.

Do I own the book?

Yes, in both cases. With create-ebook you get a full commercial license; with ChatGPT, OpenAI’s terms assign you the output.
