Claude is, for many writers, the best general assistant for prose: careful, long-context, good at following a brief. Writing a whole ebook with it is possible, and people do. The verdict
Use Claude to think: titles, angles, an argument you want to test, a paragraph you want said better. Use create-ebook to ship: the book, with the pipeline that keeps chapter 9 consistent with chapter 2 and the files you upload to a store. If you already pay for Claude and enjoy the process, one book a year is cheaper there. From the second book, or the first one you want finished today, create-ebook wins on both time and price.
Where Claude is better
- Dialogue with the text. Ask for three versions, argue with the structure, get a candid critique of your own chapter.
- Very long documents in one context, if you manage them.
- Everything around the book: the blurb, the launch email, the author bio, the ad.

A fair caveat
Neither replaces you. A book people finish has a real person’s experience in it. create-ebook gets you to the draft where you add that in an afternoon; Claude gets you there in a longer conversation with more control along the way.
Frequently asked questions
Does create-ebook use Claude?
It uses large language models through an API, currently from OpenAI, inside our own pipeline: plan, chapter memory, checks, editorial review, rendering. The model is a component.
Can I paste a Claude draft into create-ebook?
Not as an import yet. After generation you can replace any chapter’s text by hand.
Which writes better?
On one chapter, both are good. Over a whole book, the difference is memory and review, not the model, and that is what the pipeline adds.
Who owns the book?
You do, in both cases. create-ebook grants a full commercial licence; Anthropic’s terms assign you the output.
