Lead magnet
Lead magnet: A lead magnet is a free piece of content, most often a short ebook, checklist or guide, offered in exchange for an email address. It turns an anonymous visitor into a subscriber you can write to. Good lead magnets solve one specific problem quickly and lead naturally to a paid product or service.
What makes a lead magnet work
- One problem, solved fast. “The 7 questions to ask before hiring a coach” beats “Everything about coaching”.
- Specific to the next step. The best lead magnet is the first chapter of the relationship: it should make the paid offer the obvious continuation.
- Finished look. A cover, a contents page and clean typography say the paid work will be careful too.
- Short. 10 to 30 pages is read; 120 pages is saved and forgotten.
Formats that convert
Short ebooks and guides remain the most used because they carry authority. Checklists and templates convert faster but say less about you. Workbooks work for coaches: the reader does the exercise and feels the progress. Email courses trade the download for a sequence.
How long it takes to make one
Written by hand, a 20-page guide takes one to three days plus a cover. With an AI ebook generator that plans, writes and typesets the book, the first draft takes minutes; you then rewrite the parts where your own experience belongs, which is the part readers remember.
Frequently asked questions
How many pages should a lead magnet be?
Between 10 and 30 pages for an ebook. Long enough to be worth an email, short enough to be read the same day.
Should a lead magnet have a cover?
Yes. It is shown on the opt-in page and in the email, and a thumbnail is often what makes someone type their address.
Can a lead magnet be sold later?
Often. Many authors give away the first book and sell the deeper one; some later list the free guide on Amazon at a low price for discovery.
