KENP (Kindle Edition Normalized Pages)
KENP (Kindle Edition Normalized Pages): KENP, Kindle Edition Normalized Pages, is Amazon’s standard page count for a Kindle ebook, used to pay authors in Kindle Unlimited. Each page a subscriber reads earns a share of the monthly KDP Select Global Fund, historically around $0.004 to $0.005 per page, so a fully read 200-page book pays roughly $0.80 to $1.
How the rate is set
Every month Amazon announces a global fund and divides it by the total pages read across Kindle Unlimited. The result is the per-page rate for that month, which varies by marketplace and is published a few weeks after the month ends. Authors cannot influence the rate, only the number of pages read.
Why KENP differs from your page count
Amazon normalises font, spacing and images into a standard page, so a 180-page paperback may count as 250 KENP or 150. The KENPC figure is shown in your KDP bookshelf once the book is live. Front matter before the start reading location is not counted.
Page reads versus sales
At $0.0045 a page, a 200-page book fully read pays about $0.90, close to the 70% royalty on a $1.29 sale. Short books earn little in Kindle Unlimited; long series that get read to the end do well. That arithmetic is why romance and fantasy dominate the program.
